Your choice

On your first visit, a banner asks for your choice for three categories: “Necessary” (always on, essential for things to work), “Audience measurement” (optional, off by default) and “Advertising” (optional, off by default). Rejecting is as easy as accepting: “Reject all”, “Accept all” or “Customize”. No optional cookie or tracker is set before you agree, and rejecting has no effect on how you can use the website or the app. Your choice applies to both the eliacover.com website and the app.eliacover.com app. It is kept for 6 months, after which we ask you again; we also ask you again if this policy changes. If you had already made your choice before the “Advertising” category was added, we ask you a single question about it, without changing your other choices. You can change it at any time via the “Manage cookies” link.

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies and the data stored in your browser are essential for the website and the app to work: they are exempt from consent and are never used to track you. elia-consent remembers your cookie choice (categories, date, version, random reference of the choice); it is shared between the website and the app on the eliacover.com domain and kept for 6 months. elia-theme (light or dark mode) and elia-lang (chosen language) are also shared between the website and the app and kept for one year; a copy of these preferences may be kept in your browser’s local storage (rb-theme, rb-locale). On the website, elia_audio and elia_events (session cookies) are only set if you open a preview link for a section that is not yet published. In the app: your sign-in session is kept in your browser’s storage to keep you signed in, and the sign-in service (auth.eliacover.com) sets technical cookies for the duration of a sign-in with Google; bot protection may set a security token (aws-waf-token); at payment time, our payment provider Stripe sets __stripe_mid and __stripe_sid to secure the payment and prevent fraud; the app also keeps the state of its interface in your browser’s storage (player preferences, tips already seen, photo uploads or payment in progress, random identifiers for session recording), until you clear the site data.

Audience measurement

Only if you accept it. Google Analytics 4, on the website and in the app, helps us understand which pages are viewed and where visits come from. It sets the _ga and _ga_<ID> cookies, kept for 13 months; the data is kept for 14 months in Google Analytics. Google’s script is not loaded at all before you agree. Our settings: Google signals and ad personalization turned off, no identifier relating to you sent (no account, no email, no name), page addresses cleaned before being sent (shared-book link tokens and sensitive parameters are removed), IP address neither logged nor stored by Google Analytics. Processor: Google Ireland Limited (Ireland), with a possible transfer to Google LLC in the United States, covered by the Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. Finally, when you open a shared book, the first share link is remembered for 30 days in your browser’s local storage (eliacover.v5.referral and eliacover.v5.sharesSeen); without your consent, it is only kept in memory for the duration of your visit. Likewise, the origin of your first visit (source, medium, campaign and ad when you come from an ad or a campaign link, referring site, landing page; never the click identifier added by an ad platform) is stored for 30 days in your browser's local storage (eliacover.site.arrival on the website, eliacover.v5.firstTouch in the app), so we know how you discovered Eliacover and can measure how well our campaigns work, without any advertising tool; without your consent, it is only kept for the duration of your visit. Advertising

Only if you accept it (“Advertising” category). The Meta pixel, on the website and in the app, tells us whether our Facebook and Instagram ads led to a visit, a sign-up, a free preview started or a purchase (amount and currency), to measure how well they work; Meta may also use it to show you our ads. It sets the _fbp cookie (a random identifier of your browser, 3 months) and, if you arrive by clicking an ad, _fbc (an identifier of that click, 3 months). Meta's script is not loaded at all before you agree. Our settings: no data from your account is sent (no email, name or phone number: no advanced matching), automatic events are off, and nothing is sent from a page whose address contains a shared-link token or a gift code. Meta Platforms Ireland Limited (Ireland) is joint controller with Eliacover for collecting and transmitting this data, then sole controller for its use; data may be transferred to Meta Platforms, Inc. in the United States, under the Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. Meta's privacy policy: https://www.facebook.com/privacy/policy. If you withdraw your consent, the pixel stops sending anything and the _fbp and _fbc cookies are deleted.

Managing cookies

You can change your mind at any time: via the “Manage cookies” link at the bottom of every page of the website, with the button below, or in the app, from your account settings, Privacy section. If you withdraw your consent, the measurement concerned (audience or advertising) stops and its cookies are deleted. You can also delete cookies from your browser settings: the website will then go back to light mode and the default language, and ask for your choice again.
